KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): About 400 internally displaced and needy families on Saturday received cash and non-food items in southeastern Khost province, an official said.

The families belonged to Sabari, Nadir Shah Kot and Ismail Khel Mandozai districts of the province and they distributed the aid by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Mohammad Ishaq Afghan, a provincial IOM official, told Pajhwok Afghan News that each family received 200 US dollars in cash and some winter non-food items, including blankets and other items.

He said most of these families were internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had been displaced from their homes due to the conflict.

He added: “This process is very transparent. We will try and achieve the goal we set. We have tried to identify the people in need and help them. ”

Khost Governor Maulvi Mohammad Nabi Omari on the occasion stressed fair distribution of the aid among deserving familities.

“Thanks to all those who are cooperating and helping the Afghan people. Insha’Allah, our leaders’ endeavor is to provide cash, food and non-food items to the poor and needy wherever they are,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rahmat Khan, an elder from Zan Khel area of Nadir Shah Kot district, said he was happy to receive the aid. He called on the government and international aid agencies to reach out to those in need.

“We are helpless people. It is winter and we need firewood. I am happy to receive this help but we want this help permanently,” he said.

On the other hand, officials of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that the assistance would be extended to other parts of the province as well.
