Never supplied arms to NRF, says Russia

KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia has spurned claims that it supplied weapons to the National Resistance Front (NRF) of Afghanistan.

A Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman scorned US experts’ allegations of arms supplies by Moscow to NRF in Panjsher province.

In a statement on Monday, Maria Zakharova rejected the American experts’ comments as mere insinuations.

TASS news agency quoted her as saying that Russia was not the producer country of the weapons supplied to the group.

“Russia did not participate in any way whatsoever and is not going to participate in arming Afghan warring parties,” the diplomat added.

She added Moscow believed arms supplies to the warring parties would not contribute to stabilising the situation in Afghanistan.

Instead, the spokeswoman said, such a move would further aggravate the situation and could trigger a civil war based on ethnic strife.
