Many countries ready to cooperate with Afghan govt: Lyons

KABUL (Pajhwok): UN Secretary’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons has said many countries desire cooperation with the acting government of Afghanistan.

Lyons made the remarks at a meeting with Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani here on Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The UNAMA head hailed as productive recent UN meetings on Afghanistan. Most countries desired to cooperate with the caretaker government of Afghanistan that had become a centre of attention, she said.

She assured Afghanistan of UN cooperation in attracting more humanitarian aid, prevention of drug trafficking and poppy cultivation.

Haqqani thanked Lyons for painting a true picture of Afghanistan at UN meetings and said the government was committed to the security of foreign missions and organisations. He said the government desired peaceful and cordial ties with the world.
