KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban’s supreme leader has banned poppy cultivation and all other types of narcotics in Afghanistan.
A government statement said on Sunday: “As per the supreme leader’s ruling all Afghans are informed that from now on, cultivation of poppy has been strictly prohibited across the country.”
The statement added: “If anyone violates the decree, his/her crop will be destroyed immediately and the violator will be treated according to the Sharia law.”
“In addition, usage, transportation, trade in all types of narcotics — such as alcohol, heroine, tablet K, hashish,” the statement explained.
Drug-manufacturing factories in Afghanistan were also banned, the Taliban’s supreme leader said.
“The enforcement of this decree is mandatory. The violator will be prosecuted against and punished by the judiciary.”
