KABUL (Pajhwok): Recent talks between Kabul and Tehran on their water rights agreement were constructive, says a top Iranian diplomat.
Iran’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi, who was included in the Iranian delegation that visited China last week for a conference on Afghanistan, hailed the talks as positive.
Headed by Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Iranian delegation met the Afghan team on the sidelines of the conference.
Tasnim news agency quoted Qomi as saying the Taliban team had agreed to respect Iran’s water rights in light of the agreement.
The two sides discussed a range of issues of common interest, including border security and stability in Afghanistan, the Iranian media outlet reported.
The imperative of regional cooperation on the reconstruction and security of Afghanistan also figured at the meeting in China, the envoy added.
