KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The Water Supply and Canalization Department of southern Kandahar province says the groundwater level in the province has depleted as deep as 15 meters, causing water shortages.
Engineer Janan Agha, director of the department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the groundwater level in Kandahar was plummeting day by day and has recently dropped by 15 meters.
He linked the receding groundwater level in the province to ongoing drought, digging of deep wells, excessive and misuse of water and increase in population.
That is why, he says, they have banned the drilling of deep wells/boreholes in Kandahar . . .
