PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has renewed support for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan contributing to regional progress and connectivity.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged the global fraternity to focus on sustained humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

At a joint news conference with his German counterpart in Islamabad on Tuesday, he asked the Taliban administration to measure up to the international community’s expectations on human rights, including women’s rights.

Bilawal Zardari called for the international community to actively engage with the Afghan government to resolve the humanitarian crisis, in the war-hit country.

The release of Afghanistan’s foreign reserves would help arrest the free fall of its economy, believed the young foreign minister.

Pakistan had borne the brunt of terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan, he claimed, stressing the need for bringing peace to that country.

Visiting Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said she had discussed with Bilawal the situation in Afghanistan.

She promised Germany would continue supporting the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. She asked all nations to back Afghanistan’s education and health sectors.

The Taliban government was heading in the wrong direction, she alleged, saying they would not abandon the people of Afghanistan.
