KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister Maulvi Abdul Kabir on Saturday said religious scholars must play the role of a bridge between the government and the masses.

Acting Minister of Virtue and Prevention of Vice urged the ulema to share their thoughts with them, but some participants of the meeting say the government must choose the path of justice and show flexibility.

Today (Saturday), deputy prime minister Maulvi Abdu Kabir told the grand meeting the ulema must work for strengthening of the current system and provide their suggestions to the government.

“The system requires sacrifices from us in the future as well, from now on we will work how to protect the system,” he said. He added the ulema must play the role of a bridge between the government and the people.

Kabir said: “Our opponents are weak in the country and abroad, but the Islamic Emirate has a sound policy for them, if anyone wants to return to the country, can do so freely.”

According to him, so far 105 people, including former ministers, have returned to the country.

Sheikh Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, minister of vice and virtue, said: “We are moving forward with the guidance from our leaders and do not do excesses because Islam is a system and religion of moderation, morality, and compassion.”

He said there were 155 halls in Kabul where “un-Islamic actions” were carried out before the Taliban’s victory, but currently officials of all the halls had promised that they would do nothing in violation of Islamic principles.

He added the ulema who had any observations regarding his ministry should share them courageously.

On behalf of the Afghan refugees in Iran, Sheikh Abdul Matin Hussain told the gathering he was advising officials not to deal with anyone over religion and not to forget the efforts of those who had offered sacrifices for the system.

He added that the government should use “flexibility” at this early stage and ensure justice.

Mufti Mahmood Zakiri, another participant of the meeting, said the way should be easy for providing suggestions and each minister must set a date for public consultation.

“Don’t listen to the people on Facebook, they are not the people of the nation, the people of the nation are sitting here in this gathering,” he added.

Mufti Sirajuddin Abidi, who attended the meeting from Kunduz, said the islands of power in the country were now over and the entire country was under a single leadership.

“The security in the country is ensured, there is justice, corruption, bribery, usurpation and oppression have been prevented. Anyone who commits a crime is prosecuted and brought to justice,” he added.

Another participant of the meeting, Sheikh Qiamuddin Hanafi, said the issue of competence and professionalism was very important, therefore, for good governance, the work should be done by eligible people.

A day earlier, addressing the gathering, the ‘Islamic Emirate’ Supreme Leader Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada stressed national unity, justice, security, pure Islamic system and obedience of ulema.
