GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Over 700 people have been infected by a virus similar to cholera in the Matakhel village of Ghazni’s Nawa district, an official said on Friday.
Mohammad Naseem Ibrar, director of pandemic diseases at Ghazni Public Health Department, said they people might have been infected by this disease due to drinking Kareez water.
He said medical teams had been dispatched to the area and took the effort to control the virus and ensure the Kareez waters are clean.
“Fortunately, there no loss of life but we took 724 ill persons to district and other clinics,” he said
Ibrar added most of the affected patients were women and children.
But Mohibullah Khpalwak, a local elder, said last week 300 people were infected by cholera in the Andi and some other villages of Nawa district.
