KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The yield of Melon and watermelon in southern Kandahar province has dropped by 25 percent and their export has crashed to zero due to drought and a shortage or irrigation water, farmers said on Thursday.
High fuel prices and the closure of air corridors are among other reasons growers identified for the lower production levels of melon and water melon.
Farmer Wali Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News he was not sure that he would earn the amount spent on the irrigation of his melon from the yield.
