Electricity supply to Neili City suspended from past 2-month

NEILI CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents in Neili City, the capital of central Daikundi province and skilled persons have complained about the non-availability of electricity for the past two months.

Local officials said the shortage of water in Sokhtag Dam was the reason behind the electricity cut-off.

Shopkeepers complained most of their goods had spoiled because of the non-availability of electricity, adding that they were unable to turn on refrigerators.

Nasir, a local resident who has butchery in Neili, said from the past two months they were deprived of electricity, in the start of the year electricity supply was good and the price was low.

He complained not only the markets but residential areas and government offices were also deprived of electricity.

He said butchers daily brought meat for sale but due to the non-availability of electricity they could not store the remaining meat and that got spoiled.

He said most of the time during the day the sky is cloudy and they could not benefit from solar power.

Mohammad Esa, another shopkeeper in Neili City, linked the graph of his sale to the availability of electricity.

He said: “Beverages could not be stored inside refrigerator due to electricity cut off, it gets spoiled and public economic condition is not doing well as well.”

He said the electricity blackout left a negative impact on their business and their revenue and client had declined.

Daikunid Governor Office Chief of Staff Mohammad Noor Khalil said: “ Electricity supply from Sokhtag Dam was not available anymore due the decline in the water level and two generators available with the DABS were no more functional.”

He said some engineers had arrived in Kabul to repair the generators and ensure the provision of electricity to the Neili City.

He said currently government offices received electricity for two hours in their official time.
