PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has been urged to reduce taxes and duties on coal exports to Pakistan.
The call came at a meeting, which was attended by business leaders and government officials from the neighbouring countries in Torkham.
Representatives of the Afghan government held out the assurance to convey the demand to relevant authorities.
The meeting underlined the need for accelerating the clearance of rucks laden with tomatoes and onions, fruits and other perishable commodities.
Clearance delays are linked to ongoing construction work on a National Logistics Cell (NLC) terminal on the Pak-Afghan highway.
Held at the Customs House, the meeting called for the speedy clearance of trucks and promotion of trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan/
A government statement said Additional Collector of Customs Muhammad Tayyab chaired the meeting that was also attended by members of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI).
PAJCCI Vice President (VP) Ziaul Haq Sarhadi and other officials, including Afghan Border Security Commander Maulvi Khalid participated in the session.
According to the statement, delegations from both countries agreed to ensure the implementation of a ban on fertiliser and sugar supplies from Pakistan to Afghanistan.
