LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The governor of southern Helmand province said on Friday the family of women killed in a clearing operation had forgiven the perpetrators.
About a month ago, two women of a family were killed and three other people injured during an operation in the Bost Kala area of the sixth police district of Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand.
Local government officials and members of the bereaved family held a meeting on dealing with the issue here on Friday.
Governor Maulvi Abdul Ahad Talib told Pajhwok Afghan News after the meeting that the incident was accidental and unintentional.
He said the killers were still in prison,. However, they were released after being pardoned by elders of the family today.
“The incident was very painful. We arrested the people responsible the same day … I thank the victims’ family for forgiving them.”
Similarly, the head of the victims’ family, Mohammad Ikhlas, also called the incident accidental. He said he had willingly and sincerely pardoned those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, Helmand Ulema Council chief Maulvi Mohammad Ismail said peace and forgiveness led to the success, development and prosperity of society.
