PARAKH (Pajhwok): The National Radio in central Pamjsher province is back on air after going off one and a half years ago and can be listened in a number of districts, including the provincial capital, Parakh.

The radio, which operates in the framework of the Radio Television of Afghanistan, remained off the air for one and a half years and resumed broadcasts at a ceremony today.

Addressing the ceremony, Maulvi Nasrullah Malakzada, head of information and culture department in Panjshir, said the local radio resumed operating due to efforts of his department and it would operate according to the government policy and Islamic Sharia.

He added that the government was working to strengthen the circulation of information and provide facilities to journalists in the province.

Officials say the FM radio broadcasts news, educational, religious, cultural, sports and economic programs, including advertisements and covers a number of districts.

Local residents were also happy with the development.

Agha Shirin, a resident of Parakh, said: “When a media outlet starts working again, it gives hope to the people of Panjsher and we are happy with this work of the government… progress is made day by day.”

In addition to the National Radio Television, a private radio ‘Kajkan’ also operates in Panjshir.

Another private radio called ‘Khorasan’ was also active in the province, but it was closed about a year ago.
