80,000 tablet-K seized during last one year: MoI

KABUL (Pajhwok): Security personnel seized about 80,000 drug products sold under the street name of table K during the past year. Doctors say tablet K is injurious to health while some youth use them during joyful and wedding ceremonies.

Tablet K is a dangerous intoxicating synthetic drug of methamphetamine family. Only one use of this drug can destroy some cells of nervous system and can create permanent disorder in thinking and decision-making, the doctors say.

Faridullah Omari, an internal diseases specialist at Kabul infectious diseases hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News tablet K is a type of intoxicative and addictive drug. It is a dangerous derivative drug of Methamphetamine family, “its chemical name is Methyldioxymethylamphetamine.”

This drug is commonly used by some youths in joyful and wedding ceremonies which, after 20 minutes of the use, create a type of false sense of happiness.

The effects of this drug remain for four hours in the body which can also cause psychiatric and physical problems and can kill in some cases, Omari said.

Omari advised the youth to avoid the use of this drug because its use can cause permanent addiction and misery.

SharafatZamanAmarkhel, the spokesperson of the Public Health Ministry, also called tablet-K a type of activating drug used by youth in joyful ceremonies to be more active and intoxicated.

“One who uses tablet K feels a sense of emotion and can dance for hours, but after some time, he feels restlessness, confusion, excessive heat in the body, increased heart beats, contraction of muscles, dryness of mouth, thirst and others, even it cause death”, Amarkhel said.

Most users of this drug are youth, but there are no statistics about the number of its users because it is always consumed secretly, he continued.

“This drug is usually sold in form of tablets with different colors, shapes and with Latin scripts, the drug is one of the forbidden all over the world”, he added.

Khalid Zadran, the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, said security forces discovered and seized 80,000 tablet K during the past year and arrested hundreds of individuals in connection with the drug’s sale.

“This drug is not produced in our country, it is smuggled from abroad”, Zadran said.

Zadran urged the countrymen to cooperate with security forces in finding and seizing such drugs.
