MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Doctors in northern Balkh province say thalassemia is an inherited disease and its complete treatment is not possible in the country, while thalassemia patients urge the government pave the way for their treatment abroad.
Doctors say thalassemia is a hereditary disease and cased by genetic disorders; these patients should receive blood regularly and consciously from health centers in case of need.
Dr. Abdul Raoof Forogh, children ward in-charge in the zonal hospital, said that thalassemia patients could survive only by regular blood transfusions, but full treatment was impossible in the country.
