Continued use of whitening creams dangerous for skin: Experts

KABUL (Pajhwok): Whitening skin creams commercials have been on raise at a time when experts termed the continued use of these creams dangerous for skin and caused allergy, black spots and narrowness of the skin.

Gatti Market, on its facebook page wrote, whitening and lightening cream of face and body, it is a miracle of beauty.

Referring to the benefits of this cream the commercial read: “Hundred percent against sunlight, whitening skin, face and hands, moisturizing the skin, firming facial wrinkles, skin repair, suitable for any type of skin.”

Another facebook page online poster in its commercial wrote: “Instant and permanent bleaching spray and beauty product of the day with immediate result whitens and removes facial spots.”

Sosan, the resident of Kart-i-Parwan locality of Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “I have bought whitening cream online several times, the first few days, it made my skin look shiny and fresh, but after some time, I realized that it damaged my skin a lot.”

Arzo, the resident of Kabul’s Chahel Saton area said since a long time I have been using whitening creams, but she regretted the excessive use of these creams. “Now my skin got accustomed to such creams if I don’t use it my skin remains dry.”

Medical experts termed the use of these creams dangerous

Dr. Khalid Bahrami, one of the skin doctors in the Kiwan Skin and Beauty Specialisation Centre, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “There is no product to provide permanent whitening to the skin and it has negative impact.”

All whitening creams made of chemicals it has immediate impact on skin but not permanent and has negative impact in the long term.

“Youth think their face is white but these types of creams narrow the skin and finally it cause skin allergy,” he said.

Prof. Abdul Hai Wali, Kabul University teacher, expressed similar view and said: “There are whitening creams specifically used for the whitening of certain skin problems.”

He said individuals using whitening creams for permanent purposes are making mistake because so far no cream has been created that offer permanent whitening without side effects.
