In eastern Nangarhar province, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) and the Afghan Red Crescent Society provided food aid to 2,800 poor families.

Nangarhar Information and Culture Department media coordination head Qureshi Badlon told Pajhwok Afghan News the poor families belonged to Jalalabad city, Achin and some other districts.

According to his information, 2305 families in Achin district were given the aid, with each family receiving 50 kilograms of flour, 10 liters of oil and 33 packets of baby food.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society also distributed food items among 500 destitute families in some areas of Jalalabad city, who had been surveyed earlier, in cooperation with the German Red Cross.

He said each family was given 50 kilograms of flour, 24 kilograms of rice, 10 liters of oil, seven kilograms of beans, five kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of green tea, two kilograms of salt and seven kilograms of pulses.

About 2,000 needy families in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province were given away cash assistance by the World Food Program.

Sibghatullah Naibkhel, Rural Rehabilitation and Development department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 2,000 families in Mohammad Agha district were identified as deserving in a survey conducted by a joint delegation.

Each family was given 8500 afghanis, he said, adding efforts were underway to assist needy and deserving families in other districts of the province.

In Zabul province, 1500 farmers were distributed improved quality wheat seed and chemical fertilizer in Daichopan district, according to the Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock department.

Maulvi Ataullah Rashid, head of the department, told Pajhwok the improved wheat seeds and white and black urea had been provided by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) and distributed by the Afghan Development Association (ADA).

Each farmer was given one bag of improved wheat seed, one bag of white and one bag of black urea, he said, hoping the wheat yield would increase with the assistance.
