KABUL (Pajhwok): A young man from the Pul-i-Charkhi area of Kabul is providing hundreds of less fortunate children, including girls, free education.
Wais Mohammad Arian, head of the Pul-i-Charkhi Youth Association and owner of an education centre, told Pajhwok Afghan News he launched the programme this winter.
He said about 123 girls and 268 boys were being taught free of cost at his educational centre. “There are 391 students attending classes at the centre in two shifts.”
Despite his fragile financial situation, the young man said he was providing free stationery and books for the students.
Arian informed he had hired eight teachers to impart education to the students.
Some of the students are said to be enrolled in different schools. Others, however, have not yet seen the classroom.
Arian explained the objective behind the winter education programme was to serve society and prevent children from wasting their time.
He asked the government and Afghans abroad for assistance so that he could provide education to more children.
Hikmatullah, a teacher at the centre, also said their main priority was to serve society and educate children.
Abdul Rashid, a student, told Pajhwok he was pleased having availed the opportunity to read and write.
Tabasum, a girl student, said it had been a month that she was attending the program to learn reading and writing.
Hafizullah, a resident of the area, said there was an urgent need for an education centre here. He urged the government to support such young men so that they could serve the nation.
