Hundreds of acres of usurped state land reclaimed in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Government land measuring 575 acres has been wrested back from usurpers in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of central Logar province, the Land Grab Prevention Commission said on Tuesday.

A member of the commission, Shahidullah Hamraz, told Pajhwok the government land was freed in ‘Huni Safali’ and ‘Sherwazi’ areas of Pul-i-Alam. He said dozens of people were involved in the usurpation.

He added the Logar chapter of the Land Grab Prevention Commission jerked into action six months ago and was preventing government land from being usurped in all districts, including Pul-i-Alam.

Hamraz said they had so far reclaimed about 25,000 acres of government land from usurpers in Baraki Barak, Chark districts and Pul-i-Alam.

He said dozens of people had been arrested for usurping the state land, but they were released after assurances that they would not usurp government land in future

He said the commission was working fast to recover all grabbed land and this week they reclaimed about 575 acres of government land in Pul-i-Alam.

He said the illegal occupants had built some structures including boundary walls on the reclaimed land, which would be demolished in the next few days.

Residents of Pul-i-Alam and some districts also hailed the recovery of usurped government land.

Pul-i-Alam residents said powerful individuals and former government officials had usurped large swaths of government land and had constructed buildings on it.
