GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of Zankhan district in southern Ghazni complain they have been lacking access to health facilities since long.
They say the only government hospital in the district center has a few workers and beds and many villages are situated far away from it. The residents say they are unable to take their patients to the provincial hospital in Ghazni city.
A tribal elder in Zankhan district, Haji Hazrat, told Pajhwok Afghan News that there was only one clinic in the district center, but it lacked beds, operation theatre and local residents had no option but to transfer their patients to the provincial capital, which is 30 kilometers away.
He said roads to the district were in bad condition and sometimes critical patients die before reaching hospital in Ghazni city.
Ishaq, another resident, said no health center was available in remote areas of the district and women there faced serious problems during childbirth.
He said standard health centers with facilities for women were a longstanding demand of the district residents.
He said the district residents, who were mostly poor, would be able to get rid of the problems if at least two health centers were established.
Other residents also asked the government to establish health facilities in the district and fund and equip them.
Local officials confirm problems mentioned by Zankhan district dwellers and say they are trying to resolve them.
The spokesman of the governor, Hafiz Omar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the existing problems had been discussed with the Ministry of Public Health which had promised to solve them.
Residents of other districts in Ghazni province have similar complaints as well.
