3 youths from Kabul drown to death in Kunar river, 2 rescued

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Three young men hailing from Kabul died after drowning in river in Manogi district of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Saturday.

Manogi district chief Ahmad Gulab told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Friday afternoon in Tanteel area of the district.

He said five people were swimming in the Kunar River when all of them drowned, but local residents rescued two of them and fished out the dead bodies of the three.

He said the deceased were residents of Guldara district of Kabul who had come to Kunar with friends.

One of the tourists drowned while swimming in the river and two friends jumped into the water to rescue him,  but all the three drowned and their dead bodies were found by local residents. .

The district chief said the dead bodies were sent to Asadabad hospital, from where they will be transferred to Kabul and handed over to their families.
