KABUL (Pajhwok): A four-day polio vaccination campaign targeting 11 million children under five years of age kicked off across the country on Monday.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said the campaign was launched in cooperation with international and relevant state institutions.
A statement from the ministry said the drive sought to vaccinate more than 11 million children under five against polio.
The statement added a similar campaign would be conducted in the northern zone after a week from August 28 to 31, Mebendazole tablets will also be administered to children aged 24 to 59 months for deworming.
Five cases of the crippling disease have been recorded in the country so far during the current year.
Kamal Shah Syed, a UNICEF official in Afghanistan, told Pajhwok Afghan News the polio vaccination campaign would last four days.
