Religious scholar shot dead in Pakistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a religious scholar in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi yesterday, media reports said on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old Sheikh Ziaur Rahman, administrator of Jamia Abu Bakar seminary, was gunned down near Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block 16, ARY reported.

Police said they were probing the incident and had recovered 11 bullet shells of two different weapons from the spot where the cleric was gunned down.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Rifat Mukhtar has sought details of the incident from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assassination.
