PARON (Pajhwok): Construction work on a bridge over a river has been launched at a cost of 11 million afghanis in Paron, the capital of eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Saturday.
Maulvi Ehsanullah, Nuristan rural rehabilitation and development director, said the bridge will be about 21 meters lengthy and seven meters wide. The bridge is being constructed in Mandi area of Paron and will take six months to complete.
He added the bridge would facilitate the movement of thousands of farmers and vehicles between Mandi and Pushki areas.
The cost of the construction will be paid from development budget of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.
Niamatullah, a resident of the area, expressed happiness over the bridge’s construction and added in the past the wooden bridge over the river was substandard and in danger of collapsing.
In the opening ceremony of the construction of the Bridge, Nuristan Governor Maulvi Sher Ahmad Haqqani said Nuristan was a backward province in the country, with many of its villages lacking roads.
