KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A 60-year-old dispute between two tribes in southeastern Khost province has been resolved following efforts by local officials, tribal elders and religious scholars.

The feud between Tryzee and Babakarkhel tribes was triggered by the demarcation of a mountain and land ownership about six decades ago.

Maulvi Hazrat Jamal, a member of the Land-Grab Prevention and Restitution Commission (LGPRC), told Pajhwok Afghan News that both tribes refused to accept the boundaries identified by the government of the time.

He said members of the commission marked the boundaries between the tribes by studying the relevant documents and taking into consideration the GPS measurement of the area.

He added: “In order to solve this problem, the government took a decision in the solar year 1343, but it was not accepted by the parties and could not be implemented.

“Fortunately, however, the row has been sorted out by mediators,” said Jamal, who called on tribal leaders and people of the province to solve all their problems through dialogue. He promised officials would cooperate with them.

He said he would not allow anyone to usurp government land. “So far, we have registered thousands of acres of state land in Khost and efforts are underway in this regard.”

Meanwhile, elders of the tribes expressed happiness over the resolution of the six-decade-old dispute.

Mukhtaruddin Jalalzai, a leader of the Tryzee tribe, told Pajhwok the decision made 60 years ago was being implemented with the consent of the parties involved.

He also asked other tribes of the province to talk out their problems. “We had this dispute for 60 years, but thank God, officials of the current government have resolved and changed it into brotherhood.”

Haji Mohammad Rahman, a Babakarkhel elder, told Pajhwok oath from both tribes had taken up arms against each other several times.

He believed the dispute would have led to horrible consequences if the government had ignored it.

Rahman commented: “There are many friendships and kinships between the two tribes. We are very happy that Allah saved us from conflict.”

Leaders and youth of both tribes hugged each other and have once again started living a peaceful life.
