ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Local officials in southwestern Nimroz province on Friday said about 200 Afghan prisoners have been released from the Al-Ghadir prison in the city of Zahedan in Iran.
Maulvi Yar Mohammad Haqyar, an official of the Foreign Affairs Department of Nimroz, told Pajhwok: “These Afghan prisoners were released as a result of efforts by the Afghan Embassy in Tehran and the Afghan Consulate in Zahedan and were handed over to the Foreign Affairs Department in Nimroz.”
Last week, 193 Afghan prisoners released from Iran returned to Nimroz province.
About 480 Afghan prisoners have been released from Iranian jails during the past nine months.
