KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance has increased customs tariff on nine goods being imported to the country in order to support domestic products, industry and subsequently increase government’s revenue.
The MoF in a statement said based on the request of businessmen and industrialists, it had been decided to increase customs duty on a number of imported items in line with the principle of supporting domestic products and businesses.
The ministry said customs duty on ketchup was increased from 10 percent to 30 percent, on detergent from 12 percent to 16 percent, on matches from five to 10 percent and MDF boards from five to eight percent.
The tariff on iron nails was increased from eight to 12 percent, on barbed wire from eight to 16 percent, digital scale from 2.5 percent to five percent, agricultural machinery from 16 percent to 30 percent and on chickens from 20 to 40 percent.
The Finance Ministry said the duty was increased on goods also produced in Afghanistan and would help promote local products.
