QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): The provincial hospital in western Badghis province lacks necessary facilities and service and three patients share one bed, some relatives of patients say.

Ayee Bibi, a patient attendant from Jawand district, said the Qala-i-Naw provincial hospital lacked necessary health facilities and services. She said three and four patients used one bed.

She asked officials to provide facilities, including beds, in the hospital.

Kali, another patient relative, made similar complaint.

He said sharing one bed by three patients causes the transmission of diseases.

“We ask the government to solve problems in the hospital and enlarge it,” Kali added.

Public Health Director Khan Mohammad Himmat said the 100-bed hospital would be upgraded to 250 beds.

According to him, they have arranged the upgrade plan and handed it over to MoPH.

Himmat said: “The upgrade plan of Qala-i-Naw has been sent to MoPH, hopefully the hospital will be upgraded and a separate children ward will be established”.

Head nurse Mustafa Sediqi told Pajhwok Afghan News: “2,972 children were admitted in the hospital during the past one month; about 85 to 90 percent suffered from pneumonia and nine of them died”.
