QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Residents of northwestern Badghis complain about a sluggish process of electronic ID cards issuance, but officials say they process nearly 300 applicants daily.

Jan Mohammad, a resident of Jawand district, said he came to Qala-i-Naw city about one week ago to apply for electronic ID card.

He said: “About one week ago I came here to get ID card, but the process advanced just two steps so far”.

Bismillah, another resident, also complained that he spent 10 days visiting the city to obtain electronic ID card, but his documents were yet to be processed.

These residents asked the government to speed up the process of issuing electronic ID cards.

Meanwhile, National Statistics and Information Authority Director Ziauddin Bakhtyar rejected the ID cards distribution process had been slow.

He said: “Previously we had problems, but after the activation of the second centre, the problems have been solved”.

Currently, two electronic ID cards distribution centers are active, where daily nearly 300 applicants’ documents are processed, Bakhtyar added.

The delay might be caused by problems to paper ID cards that need to be corrected, he emphasized.
