Telecom services being extended to Uruzgan’s Shiro area

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Residents of Gizab district in central Uruzgan province complain they lack access to telecommunication services, but officials say the problem is being resolved.

A number of tribal elders and religious scholars from Shiro area of Gizab district visited the district center and met local officials.

With a population of about 600 families, Shiro area is located 40 kilometers north of the district center.

The elders and religious scholars from Shiro area shared their problems with the officials.

Speaking on their behalf, Sheikh Ghulam Haidar said that the people of Shro area had long been deprived of telecommunication services besides other facilities.

He said they had to walk for three hours to make a phone call.

Gizab district administrative chief Mullah Mir Hamza Hanafi promised he would share their problems with provincial officials.

Provincial telecommunication and information technology director Maulvi Zainullah Farooqi told Pajhwok that they were trying to extend telecom services to Shiro area.

He said working groups sent to the area had done survey and chosen locations for installing telecommunication antennas.
