PU-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): About 2,041 ghost disabled people and heirs of martyrs have been identified in central Logar province and removed from the list of beneficiaries, an official said on Wednesday.

Zabihullah Fateh, an official of the Martyrs and Disabled Affairs Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News about 10,000 disabled people and heirs of martyrs were registered in Pul-i-alam, the provincial capital, and districts during the past two years.

He said 215 million afghanis were distributed to these people and families during the period.

He added: “A detailed investigation was conducted about families of the disabled and heirs of martyrs in the province after the takeover of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and during the investigation, 1,800 disabled and 241 heirs of martyrs were found imaginary who had created fake books and new and deserving people were registered.”

Food items worth 18 million afghanis were distributed to the families of disabled and martyrs in Pul-i-Alam and six districts during last one year, he explained.

Mohammad Halim, a resident of the provincial capital, who is disabled on both legs, told Pajhwok he was happy that the Department of Disabled and Martyrs Affairs had identified imaginary families and removed them from the list.

He added: “These people and families should also be referred to judicial organs. The government should give us our annual rights on time.”

Earlier, hundreds of imaginary disabled people and heirs of martyrs had been identified in other provinces as well.
