KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi has asked the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) to pay special attention to Afghanistan’s health sector and equipping hospitals to provide better services.
He issued the call at a meeting with Alexander Matheou, Asia-Pacific director for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement.
Muttaqi praised services in and cooperation of IFRC with Afghanistan and pointed out areas in dire need of assistance.
He asked IFRC to accelerate efforts to ensure comprehensive assistance and pay special attention to the health sector and equipping Afghanistan’s hospitals to enable them to provide better services.
For his part, Matheou appreciated the caretaker government for its cooperation. He said they had delivered assistance worth 28 million Swiss francs to about five million needy people in the areas of health and water supply over the past one year.
