About 2,000 Baghlan women engaged in handicraft business

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Information and Culture Department of northern Baghlan provinces says about 2,000 women are busy making handicrafts in factories at the recently opened special marketplace for women in the provincial capital, Pul-i-Khumri..

Maulvi Izatmir Haqqani, an official of the department, told Pajhwok that currently about 2,000 girls were working in shops such as sewing cloths, embroidering leather, weaving carpets and cooking food items.

He said this year the number of girls in handicrafts factories increased after the opening of the special marketplace for women in Pul-i-Khumri City.

Haqqani said women interested in doing business and making investment could establish and operate factories in coordination with the government and by observing the Islamic hijab.

Shirin Mohammadi, manager of a workshop, said that around 250 girls were working with her in cooking, sewing and other fields.

She said their business was good this year compared to previous years and they even were unable to finish orders from customers on time due to workload.

Zarmina, an employee of this factory, said that after the death of her husband, she decided to do her own business and that was why she started working here..

She was pleased with her job and business..

“If the government helps us and sets up more workplaces for women, other girls will join them,” she added.

Farohar Wahab, who runs a tailoring shop, said she had been working in this market sine one and a half years and if supported, she would provide work opportunities for other women..
