PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Education Department in central Logar province says about 90 out of the total 287 schools in the province have no buildings and their students face serious problems.

Education Department spokesman Shahbour Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News about 90 had no buildings and the remaining needed reconstruction.

He said the Ministry of Education (MoE) planned to construct buildings for 13 schools and reconstruct 13 others this year in cooperation with domestic and international institutions.

He added construction work was ongoing on 15 projects in the education sector at a cost of 115 million afghanis by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in the province.

Meanwhile, Mirwais, a teacher in the provincial capital, said the most serious problem was lack of school buildings in the centre and districts.

He asked the MoE and partner organizations to construct buildings for schools in this province.

Bismallah, a student at Omar Farood RA School in Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok majority of schools in remote areas of the province were without buildings and their students were struggling with serious problems.

He said most students did not attend lessons in hot weather, wind and rains.
