KABUL (Pajhwok): The General Directorate of Passport on Wednesday opened three new passport issuing branches in capital Kabul, a move drawing applause from people.

Maulvi Abdul Karim Haseeb, director of the department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the new branches were opened in Darul Aman, Qala-i-Zaman Khan and Tangi Tarakhel areas of the central capital.

He said these branches would enable people to obtain their passports within a week. He added each branch will issue 2,000 passports on a daily basis.

According to him, the branches will formally start their work from Saturday.

Mujtaba, a resident of Parwan province who had come to Kabul to get a passport, told Pajhwok that the opening of the three branches by the passport department was a commendable move.

He urged the department to open such branches in other provinces as well.

Amir Mohammad also hailed the step, saying it would help facilitate the passport issuing process.
