KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Two families reconciled and ended their 17-year-old enmity in southeastern Khost province and promised to live like bothers.
The enmity had claimed eight lives and left another 13 people injured.
Both families belong to Terezai area of Alisher district and they had been fighting each other over the ownership of a piece of land for years.
Members of these families say their lives were full of hardships and every moment they awaited a new sorrow.
In addition to life losses, they said they endured financial losses that would take decades to be compensated.
Spin Gul, a member of one of the families, told Pajhwok that he felt like reborn: "Today, I feel I had just come to the world. We lived like prisoners. Other members of the families said if they had courage to end the enmity on time, perhaps young people like Gul would not have died.
Member of another family, Zubib Rasoul, told Pajhwok: "Unfortunately, if a solution had been found before, these problems would not have arisen, but fortunately, a solution has been found now. This will prevent bloodshed and orphaning of children in the future.”
At the same time, local officials and tribal leaders said it was their responsibility to resolve such disputes.
Deputy Governor Maulvi Mehboob Shah Qant said he had turned dozens of such personal enmities into friendship so far.
He added: “Our doors are open to everyone --day and night, you can share such a problem with us”.
During the past three years, about fifty such hostilities have been resolved in Khost so far.
