JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Flash floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, have left a child dead and six others wounded in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.
Sediqullah Qureshi, an official of the Information and Culture Department, said the overnight floods also caused financial losses.
The affected areas include Bala, Mama, Mena, Afghan Mena, Ulfat Mena, Khogyanan town, and the seventh police district. Approximately, 200 houses, shops and public projects were damaged.
The Disaster Preparedness Department, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jalalabad Municipality, and security agencies helped rescue the marooned individuals.
Residents affected by the disaster called for urgent assistance. Naqibullah, a resident of Ulfat Mina, described how his home was inundated.
The gushing water, damaged his household appliances and forced him to move his family to a safe location. He appealed to the government for immediate help.
Officials promised assistance would be delivered to the affected families once a survey by aid teams was completed.
