KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump has offered Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) chief executive Dana White the post of White House press secretary, asking him to bring along several current and former UFC champions as assistants.

White confirmed on Saturday that he would meet Trump at the White House on Monday to discuss the offer. He was speaking at a news conference following a boxing event in London, Al Jazeera reported.

“Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform earlier on Saturday, adding: “Dana, please take the job!”

Trump also asked White to bring assistants, including six current and former UFC champions: Russia’s Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Americans Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier and Kayla Harrison, and Brazilian-born Amanda Nunes, who became a US citizen last year.

“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left,” Trump wrote.

The White House press secretary position has been vacant since Katie Zacharia left the post last month, after serving for only five days. She had succeeded Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down at the end of August.

White and Trump first worked together in the early 2000s and grew closer after the UFC chief publicly endorsed Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.

Trump has attended several UFC events in recent years. In June, the White House hosted a UFC fight night as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of US independence.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, a former UFC employee who worked for the organisation from 2013 to 2016, also welcomed Trump’s proposal.

“Hell yeah! Do it, @DanaWhite! It’ll just be like old times!” he wrote on X.
