KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) says about 110 international airlines flights would previously use Afghanistan’s airspace in 24 hours, but currently the number has increased to 260.
Imamuddin Ahmadi, spokesman for MoTCA, told Pajhwok Afghan News a significant increase had been recorded in the number of civilian flights using Afghanistan's airspace.
He said about 110 foreign flights would fly through Afghanistan’s airspace in 24 hours, but now the number had surged to 260, showing two and a half fold increase.
According to him, the increase in foreign flights over Afghanistan proves that Afghanistan's airspace is safe and short way for civilian transit flights. He added some famous foreign airlines had resumed flights to Afghanistan.
On Thursday, Reuters reported Singapore, British and Lufthansa Airlines had increased their flights through Afghanistan’s airspace due to the increasing tension in the Middle East.
The report stated these airlines were currently using Afghanistan's airspace as a safe air route for their flights.
Many foreign airlines stopped using Afghanistan's airspace after the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) takeover in August 2021.
