KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate has dismissed the concerns raised by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and other parties regarding the newly-enacted morality law as "baseless".
IEA chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said, “Following the approval and publication of the law governing the Ministry for Promoting Virtue and Preventing Vice by His Highness the Amir al-Mo'minin, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, certain parties, including UNAMA, have expressed concerns that we believe are unfounded.”
In a statement, Mujahid explained that the law, which included a preamble, four chapters, and 35 articles, was firmly rooted in Islamic teachings and the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence.
He emphasised every law, article, and clause was based on established and authoritative sources, which had been clearly cited.
He added, “We urge those who may not be familiar with the Shariah law, particularly non-Muslims who may have reservations, to have a thorough understanding of these laws and a respectful acknowledgment of Islamic values. To reject the laws without such understanding is, in our view, an expression of arrogance.”
Mujahid encouraged Muslims to familiarise themselves with the laws, which reflected the principles of Islamic Shariah.
He advised consulting knowledgeable scholars to better understand these laws. Rejecting or criticising the laws without proper understanding might indicate a lack of religious knowledge and could even affect one's faith.
As an Islamic nation, Afghanistan’s societal laws were inherently based on Islamic principles, the IEA spokesman pointed out.
It was the responsibility of every Muslim and the Islamic government to promote virtue and forbid evil, as outlined in the Holy Quran, he continued.
Mujahid said MoVV was charged with implementing these Shariah-based laws in a fair and appropriate manner.
“There is no need for concern regarding the enforcement of these Islamic laws. No rights will be violated, and no individual will be subjected to injustice. These laws will be applied universally and equitably across our society,” he assured.
He reaffirmed IEA’s commitment to upholding and enforcing the law, regardless of external concerns.
“The countless sacrifices rendered by our mujahid nation and martyrs in pursuit of this goal reaffirm our unwavering dedication to realising the holy aspirations of our people.”
