Joint Afghanistan-China trade market being set up in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Chinese MCC Company officials say a joint Sino-Afghan market will be established in central Logar province.

In this regard, a delegation of the MCC Company held a maiden meeting with the governor of Logar province and local officials on the establishment of the joint market.

The company’s representative said the MCC Company together with the Afghan government would establish ‘China-Afghanistan’ joint trade market near the Mes Aynak copper mine in Mohammad Agha district.

He also said the proposed market would facilitate trade and provide employment opportunities to many unemployed people.

Logar Governor Maulvi Ziaur Rahman Madani also asked officials and employees of the Chinese MCC Company to immediately start practical extraction of copper from the Mes Aynak mine.

Madani also added Afghanistan was rich in minerals, but if the country’s minerals were extracted legally and professionally, it would help improve people’s economy.

The governor said Afghanistan enjoyed friendly relations with China and was trying to ensure security of the Mes Aynak mine and foreign workers in the province.

The Mes Aynak copper mine contract was signed with MCC in April 2008, but practical copper extraction is yet to be started.
