PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A jirga led by the Awami National Party (ANP) has called for the opening of all crossing points between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Convened by ANP’s Bajaur chapter at the Khar Press Club on Saturday, the jirga was attended by political leaders and traders.
The participants highlighted the problems resulting from the closure of crossing point and asked the Pakistan government to reopen all trade routes with the neighbouring country.
They urged Islamabad and Kabul to immediately reopen the historically significant trade routes, which had been closed for the last two decades for the movement of goods and people.
One speaker told the jirga the reopening of the routes would have a positive impact on security in the region besides improving people’s economic condition Chaman, Torkham, Ghulam Khan and Kharlachi routes were already open for such activities, he said.
The jirga called on all political groupd to include the restoration of peace and the opening of trade routes with Afghanistan in their party manifestos.
