260 women complete tailoring, carpet weaving training in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Over 250 women in the Nahr-i-Shahi district of northern Balkh province have completed tailoring and carpet weaving training, an official said on Sunday.

The training was supported by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and upon the completion of the training necessary items for sewing and carpet weaving distributed to the trainees.

These women, living in different areas of Nahr-i-Shahi district were the family members’ recent returnees.

They had been provided financial support by the UNHCR and PAC organization for technical cooperation and vocational training.

Zabihullah Achzai, in-charge of the PAC organization in north, said recently returned women had been provided six month training in tailoring and carpet weaving.

He added that 150 women were trained in sewing in six different centers and 110 women were trained in carpet weaving in two educational centers.

According to this information, each woman has been given two sewing machines, two overclock machines, and the related carpet weaving equipment, yarn, graph and structure.

Women who completed training were also thrilled about their training.

Zarlasht, one of the trainees, said her husband was disabled and she was the mother of six children and took care of her family.

She said she completed training in tailoring for six months and now it was need that their product get a good market so that they could economically improve.

Malalay, another trainee, said she learned tailoring and now could train other students and could economically support her family.

It is pertinent to mention that PAC organization with the financial support of UNHCR provided tailoring, midwifery, carpet weaving and bees keeping trainings to 774 women and 240 men in north and northeastern provinces of the country.
