882 Afghan refugees released from custody in Pakistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Over 880 Afghan refugees have been released from custody in Pakistan since the start of 2025 and efforts were underway for the release of the remaining 84 Afghan refugees, the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation (MoRR) said on Sunday.

On its X handle the MoRR said: “According to the Afghan Refugee Attaché in Islamabad, Pakistan, since the beginning of this year, 882 Afghan refugees who had immigration cards have been arrested by the police, they have been released, and 84 others are still in custody, and serious efforts are underway to release them.”

This comes as the Afghan Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, said that on Saturday Pakistani police arrested 29 legal Afghan refugees despite refugee card in the possession.

According to reports last week around 100 Afghan refugees have been released from Pakistani jails and returned to Afghanistan.
