KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 152 prisoners have been released and jail terms of 186 others reduced in five different provinces, the Office of Prison Administration (OPA) said on Thursday.
On its X platform, OPA wrote based on a decree from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the ruling of the Supreme Court, 152 prisoners had been released from prisons in Logar, Badakhshan, Laghman, Takhar and Daikundi provinces,
Prison terms of 186 other inmates had been cut, it said, adding nine inmates had been freed in Logar, where 26 prisoners had their sentences reduced.
OPA said 72 people had been released from Badakhshan prison, where 36 others had their sentences slashed.
As many as 56 prisoners were released in Laghman, where 83 others had their sentences remitted.
Seven inmates were freed from Takhar prison, with 21 others having their time in prison whittled down.
Likewise, OPA said, eight people were released from Daikundi prison and 20 others had their sentences reduced.
On Wednesday, 42 individuals had been released in Kunduz province.
