GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A volleyball tournament featuring 20 teams has concluded in southeastern Paktia province, with Mahbas team emerging victorious.
The competition was launched to encourage youth to participate in sports and prevent drug abuse.
Qari Noor Rahman Taskin, Paktia Physical and Training and Sports Department director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 14-day competitions were held at the provincial level in Nestikot area of Gardez city.
He said teams of Mahbas and Ahmadaba Atalan marched to the final, with the Mahbas team winning the title.
Bilal, a player, told Pajhwok that such games could encourage youth to participate in sports and create unity and harmony among them.
He asked officials to hold similar games in remote areas to provide opportunities for the youth of those areas to play.
