KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) says two Afghan nationals have been released from a prison in Iraq’s Basra city and have returned to the country.
In a statement, MoRR wrote the individuals had been arrested by Iraqi border police in Basra whilst attempting to illegally enter Iraq from Iran.
The arrested individuals were imprisoned for three months in Basra prison and then returned to Afghanistan after their release, the statement added.
Before this in October 2024, three other Afghans were also freed from a prison in Iraq as a result of the Afghan embassy’s efforts and returned to their homeland.
