Nangarhar man kills daughter for refusing to marry old man

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A man allegedly killed his daughter after she refused to marry an older man in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Syed Taib Hamad told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened in Rodat district last night.

He said the man wanted his 16-year-old daughter to marry an elderly man in exchange for a large bride price, but the teenage girl refused to marry him, so he killed her.

“The suspect has fled, but security forces have launched an investigation to arrest him,” the police spokesman added.

Tasal, a resident, told Pajhwok that the girl had memorized the Holy Quran.

Tasal asked security forces to arrest the suspect and bring him to justice.

In some remote areas, cases of minor girls being married off to older men in exchange for bride price take place, but this is the first time a father killed his daughter over refusing to marry an old man.
