KABUL (Pajhwok): About 21 people have been killed and 14 others injured when a bus carrying Buddhist pilgrims careened off a cliff in Kotmale town of Sri Lanka, a media report said on Sunday.
Associated Press reported: “The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday near the town of Kotmale, about 140 kilometers (86 miles) east of Colombo, the capital, in a mountainous area of central Sri Lanka”.
It said 21 people lost their lives and 14 others wounded in the accident. The injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment.
“Deadly bus accidents are common in Sri Lanka, especially in the mountainous regions, often due to reckless driving and poorly maintained and narrow roads”.
The report did not provide further details about the incident.
